About your coach

I’m Riss (that’s short for Clarissa), a certified coach with Thought Conductor®, a training provider that’s accredited by the International Coaching Federation

I burnt out while I was working in a Head of Marketing role. It was a job I loved, but at some point along the way I stopped caring about it.

On the surface, many people told me I was crushing it. Objectively, and outwardly, I was. But on the inside I was seriously struggling.

I tried all the things you’re meant to do: exercising, taking breaks, setting better boundaries, eating & sleeping well. I took mental health days off work. But I kept finding myself back in burnout.

After a scary wakeup call (which you can hear more about in this podcast episode), I realised something needed to change.

When I look back now, there were so many signs that burnout was approaching. I either wasn’t aware of them or chose to ignore them.

But as luck would have it, I was midway through training to become a coach. The tools I was learning during my coaching training proved fundamental in getting me through my burnout recovery.

I thought a lot of other people could probably use them too.

So I created a program that would provide both the community and tools to help others navigate their way out of burnout.

About the Program

Using the knowledge and skills I’d gained in coaching training, I incorporated neuroscience-backed tools that would get to the root of what was causing the burnout in the first place, and create awareness of how to change.

I combined these powerful tools with what the research in New Zealand and overseas was telling us about burnout, plus my own personal experience of navigating it.

Next, I pilot tested the programme. Six people at different stages of the burnout cycle committed to going through the entire program with me, sharing their feedback along the way.

This amazing group of people of different ages, backgrounds, industries and life stages who shared a common experience told me what was working for them each week, helping me to optimise the delivery and content.

The result is a fully validated, tried-and-tested program designed by someone who’s been through burnout for others going through it, that’s been proven to make real, significant changes for those who experience it (you can read about some of these changes below).

Testimonials from Program participants

A note on names: Burnout is (unfortunately) a topic that’s still not talked about openly. As a result, many of my Program participants, while they get a lot out of the Program and want to leave a testimonial, request that I not disclose any identifiable information. They all come from different people, all of whom have completed my Program (and I am happy to share the evidence of this by showing the anonymous feedback forms that have been submitted over the course of my Programs).

However, I will never disclose any personal information that someone asks me not to share.

Is this program for you?

You recently experienced burnout or think you may be going through it.

You know something needs to change, but aren’t quite sure what — or how to go about it.

You’ve got some energy to commit to making these changes happen.

You don’t want to go back to the same situation you were in; you want to make sure you don’t experience burnout again.

This program is NOT for you if:

You’re currently at breaking point (if that’s the case, I recommend you visit your GP or a mental health professional as soon as possible. I run these programs several times a year, so you can always come back once you’ve recharged your batteries. You’ll get the most out of it when you have the support you need).

You don’t feel you have the energy to put in some work and take some action.

You want someone to just tell you what to do.

What the Program covers

This program is 6 weeks long, with a week either side for 1:1 sessions.

Before each group session, you’ll be sent pre-work, which is usually a reflective exercise designed to help you learn more about yourself and your situation.

After each session, you’ll be asked to set an action for the week ahead, and to partner up with someone else from the group for a 1:1 meetup during the week. The action and the 1:1 meetup are optional; however, they are both instrumental in getting the most out of this program, so are strongly encouraged.

Week 1: Introduction

Week of 26th May

This is the first group session where you’ll meet the others in the cohort! We’ll look into the 6 causes of burnout and share the one/s that resonate most for us, and listen to where others are currently at. This provides a helpful starting point and a sense of support that will grow with each session to come. We’ll also do a powerful visualisation exercise and do a check in so we have something to look back on at the end of the program.

Week 2: Values

Week of 2nd June

This week, we delve into what’s important to us, and whether we’re living out our core values in our day-to-day lives and workplace. We’ll examine value misalignment and its impact on burnout and consider the changes you can make to better align with what you truly value most.

Week 3: Behaviour

Week of 9th June

This week, you’ll examine some of the behaviour you engage in when you’re burnt out. You’ll start to look at the reasons you engage in that behaviour, what you’re trying to get from it, and then land on some things you could change in order to meet your needs in a better way.

Week 4: Mindset

Week of 16th June

Mindset is a powerful tool to help you move forward with your life post-burnout. You’ll recognise blockers that are currently holding you back and develop strategies to combat them and foster resilience — a skill that will help you throughout the rest of your life.

Week 5: Purpose

Week of 23rd June

Now that you’ve delved into your personal values, your behaviour, beliefs and mindset, it’s time to bring it all together and gain a deeper understanding of WHY you are trying to make changes happen. Using a powerful tool to think about purpose, we will help you unlock what it is you really want.

Week 6: Actions

Week of 30th June

In the final week, it’s time to develop your plan for moving forward. Over the last 6 weeks, you’ll have gained new insights and taken small steps towards a life free frmo burnout. This is about ensuring that your future actions keep contributing to a life of meaning and purpose. Maybe you want to look for a new job. Maybe you want to start your own business. Maybe you want to take off on a round-the-world adventure for a year. Whatever it is, you’ll, set a powerful goal and develop tangible action steps to get there.

Frequently asked questions

  • This program is for people who want to build back from burnout alongside a small group of others. The reason it’s a group program is because connection and community are so crucial when you’re rebuilding after burnout. These will be people who may have a different background or be at a different stage of their career, but inherently have been through exactly what you have. You’ll support one another, which reinforces the idea you’re not alone in this, and you’ll come away with a support network of people who get it that you can stay in touch with long after the program ends – if you want to. It’s all about connecting you with a close-knit community of others going through the same thing.

However, if you’d prefer a 1:1 setting, I also offer 1:1 coaching packages – find out more here.

  • There is a maximum of 10 participants in the Build Back from Burnout Program, and a minimum of 4.

  • This program runs several times a year, and the date for the next cohort will usually be announced in the week after the current cohort finishes up. If you’d like to know when the next cohort is starting, I recommend signing up to my free weekly newsletter, which will always contain the latest updates and upcoming events/courses.

  • The program payment is generally required ahead of the first session. However, if you would like to discuss an alternative payment option, please reach out to discuss a weekly payment plan.

  • Allow approximately 3 hours a week to get the full benefits out of this program. 90 minutes for your group session, 30 minutes for your 1:1 session with another group member, and another hour to complete prework for the next session. Try not to see this time as a chore, but rather an opportunity to spend time on yourself and connecting with others, with the benefit of helping you to move forward in the future. If 3 hours a week feels like too much to commit, then you may want to consider taking more time to recharge or seeking support from a mental health professional before considering this program.

  • Absolutely. I will prioritise times that work for NZ participants (as I also live here, and won’t be an effective coach if I’m running group sessions at 2am in the morning!) However, you are absolutely welcome no matter where in the world you are.

  • The Program is delivered online so that I can cater to people located in different places.
